In reference to my earlier blog, because this story keeps getting better, and better, and BETTER!Apparently, this may be a vendetta against Ms. Waggoner, for not including traditional Christmas songs in the Christmas Program by a school board member's wife, Cory Babi, who had threatened her that there would be problems if there were no religious songs performed. Ms. Babi claimed that her daughter, after viewing a mere 12 minutes of this incendiary film, asked her about suicide and abortion. Those sock puppets are dash cunning! Who knew?
The video came from the school's library. Obviously after it was placed there by the Mephistopheles himself!
The mayor of this town, Ms. Karen Grossiant resigned in late February, claiming this was the last straw. "Tresa Waggoner was the last in a very long line of very peculiar situations," said Grossiant, an administrator at Regis University. "Bennett has a mean-spirited undertone. I'd had enough," she said. When the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints built a meetinghouse in nearby Strasburg last year, there was a debate over whether Mormons were Christians.
The website for the town of Bennett states:
"This growing, high plains community lies in eastern Adams and Arapahoe Counties. Bennett residents enjoy the pleasures of small town western living, clean air, quiet times and friendly neighbors. While retaining these attributes, the residents can also enjoy the urban highlights of Denver only 25 miles from Bennett and the alpine recreation of the great Rocky Mountains only an hour’s drive away. Bennett is committed to responsible planned development, economic vitality, a program for public service improvements, and continued park expansions, as well as improving the quality of life for its residents."
Urban highlights? One might wonder what they are to the residents of Bennett...
Ms. Waggoner was also accused of promoting homosexuality, after explaining "pants roles" to the children. She is the liturgist for the Brighton Presbyterian church, which she attends weekly; the minister and congregation have defended her as a "woman of God."
Tresa, obvious tool of Satan, was put on paid leave by the school superintendent, Dr. George Sauter, who claimed it would be "too disruptive" to allow her to return to the classroom. At a meeting of the school board, 53 showed up to support her, and 6 were against her. She is now looking for another job.
Performances scheduled by Opera Colorado at the school, were cancelled. "Do we look like bumpkins?" asked a cringing Town Board member, Rich Pulliam.
Hell no! Even bumpkins have standards, dammit.
Faust is a medieval morality tale. He is deeply depressed, and sells his soul to the devil. He achieves power and wealth, but suffers horrible consequences, as well as eternal damnation. This tale was used as a morality play for hundreds of years, but hey, not good enough in Bennett!
This teacher had sought to change children's ideas about opera. When initially asked what they knew about the opera, she said, her students said, "fat women screaming," "people yelling in Viking hats," and "I hate it." After seeing the Faust video, "they got excited by opera, but now they associate it with a four letter word," Waggoner said.
Is that four letter word "dumb" by any chance? :)
